CONGENITAL AND ACQUIRED CORNEAL DISORDERS
Some of these corneal superficial changes are treatable today with excimer laser modalities.
PTK approach is aimed to remove the superficial, “bad” epithelial tissue and facilitate the corneal epithelisation.
PTK - phototherapeutic keratectomy is used to ease the epithelial healing in recidivans epithelial erosions, to remove some of superficial scars, with polishing the superficial cornea and making it smooth. Combined with PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) the preexisting refractive problem could be solved at the same time.
