Artifical Cornea
An artificial cornea is a type of implants used in replacement surgery in cases of a highly blurred, diseased cornea, when the transplantation of a donor cornea is a highly risky procedure due to a danger of graft rejection or the impossibility of further conservative medicament treatment...
Indications:
- Intensive old, scar changes
- Corneal vascularization
- Swelling, blur and painful conditions in graft rejection after previous transplantation,
when possibilities with medicaments have been exhausted.
AlphaCor is an implant made of biocompatible material, with the shape of a lens, with a transparent optical central part and a white spongy ring to be integrated with the surrounding tissue of the conjunctiva and a part of the cornea. The surgical procedure is performed in one or two actions with the aim to free the central visual axis. The patient is warned not to use drops such as Alphagan or Betagan, or any other drops that may form deposits on the contact lens. Cigarette smoke may also leave brown deposits on the implant and reduce visual acuity so the patient is advised to stop smoking...
